TTT: Books that Made Me Swoon

Top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by that Artsy reader girl.

Gosh, I haven’t done TTT in such a long time! I know it’s only been like 4 months, but it feels like years!

We have all read books that has made us swoon, right? Like the romance is so cute/ heartbreaking it feels like your whole soul is happy?

This brings me to this week’s topic- which is a love freebie in honour of Valentine’s day.

So I thought I’ll list out my fav books that made me swoon.

I’ve always thought I was a hardcore shipper, but boy did I struggle to choose 10 books where I loved the romance or actively shipped a couple. There were books where I liked two people together but didn’t exactly obsessively ship them or I liked the plot better than the romance.

Also, even though I like a bit of romance in my books, I do feel we take shipping wayy too seriously. But that’s a discussion for another day.

Anyway, here are my top 10 swoon-worthy reads!

Note: Potential spoilers for the following books.

books

1) To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

To All the Boys is my comfort read. It’s such a happy book! This book also did the ‘fake dating’ trope PERFECTLY.

Peter and Lara Jean is so goddamn adorable! I had a silly grin on my face the whole time and I could feel my heart melting with all the cuteness!

I think the only downside was that I craved SO MANY cakes (but is it a bad thing? Is it reaally? Important question to ponder).

2) Fangirl

Honestly, I don’t remember the number of times I’ve read Fangirl. I first read it in 2016, and I’ve been in love with it ever since.

Of course, what made me swoon was Levi and Cath. They were so cute together! ( I was squealing like a Whale whenever they were together). Also, I want a Levi.

3) The Lunar Chronicles

I’m pretty sure Cresswell is the first ship I actively shipped. It was also the first time I fell heads over heels, “PLEASE MARRY ME” in love with a character (*cough* Thorne *cough*).  I LIVED for all the scenes between Cress and Thorne. (Spoilers: For those who understand, that scene at the ball in Winter… *clutches heart*).

While I shipped Cresswell when I first read TLC, now after my random rereads I’m leaning more towards Kaider.

4) Lola and the Boy Next Door

Honestly, it’s been quite sometime since I have read Lola and the Boy Next Door, so I don’t remember if I actually ship Lola and Cricket?

But Cricket Bell has my heart and soul, okay? I just love him so much! (We”ll be married in June!).

5) Cinder and Ella

I kinda hate this book because it makes me look like a hypocrite.

It has the cheese, the really unrealistic romance, the maybe unrealistic plot, the mean girl, kinda love triangle…everything I intensely dislike.

Yet, I love it??

It was so cute and made my heart flutter! Frankly, one of those books which made me eat my words.

Disclaimer: Though I love this book, I don’t really know how well the issue of mental health was handled. If you have read this book, please tell me what you think of it in the comments!

6) The Forbidden Wish

Like I said, I hate romance-heavy books. They usually fail to hold my interest.

The Forbidden Wish is an Aladdin retelling which has a lot of romance. But I loved Zahra and Aladdin so much! Maybe it’s because of how the story is told, but The Forbidden Wish is such a magical book.

7) Six of Crows

For a book about a heist, a book which has a lot of violence and morally grey characters, I have a lot of ships. I have yet to properly read Crooked Kingdom but  Kaz and Inej, Jesper and Wylan, Inej and Nina…they are my OTP.

My favourite is Kaz and Inej. I wasn’t really feeling them at first, but the scenes at the end of Six of Crows made me dive head first into intensely shipping them (am I using that expression right?).

I kinda like Inej and Nina together too. I read a little bit of Crooked Kingdom, Jesper and Wylan are so cute!

I’m sure Crooked Kingdom is going to break my heart and I’m scared.

8) Daughter of Smoke and Bone

I don’t really know if I ship Karou and Akiva together. But I LOVE their backstory. Even how they first fell in love is a typical case of insta-love.  But the way the story is told makes you root for them.

9) Carry On

Carry On is sort of a spin-off to Fangirl. It is a full length novel of the fanfiction Cath writes in Fangirl.

Carry On started a bit slow but as soon as Baz was introduced, I started enjoying it. I actually read Carry On before I read Fangirl, so I was able to enjoy the little scenes in Fangirl more. It maybe a little meta for some people, but I loved it.

Simon and Baz deserve to be together forever, okay? I desperately want a sequel. I want more Simon and Baz! *sobs*

Also,Carry On gave me intense craving for scones even though I have no idea what they are.

10) Pride and Prejudice

I first read Pride and Prejudice when I was 13. I didn’t like it. Then I read it again and kinda liked it. By my 4th reread, I was completely in love.

Pride and Prejudice is also another comfort read. I love the 2005 movie so much too. So I usually listen to its soundtrack when I’m in need of a little bit of cheering up.

ooh I would love to hear your discussion about shipping- cos I do think it’s true that we take a lot of it too seriously. I consider myself more of a casual shipper 😉 I thought that Peter and Lara were *so cute*!! Ahh I feel the same way about Cresswell ❤ hehehe I haven't read Cinder and Ella yet (it's on my tbr) but I do get what you mean about books that make you break your own rules- I remember when I first got into contemporary and being surprised that I could love total cheesefests (although it makes sense because I do love a good romance) Ahhh yes, I found myself intensely shipping Inej and Kaz by the end too (I think that's right 😉 ) And of course you know I feel the same way about daughter of smoke and bone. Oh gosh, if ever I was to take shipping more seriously, it would come down to Baz and Simon because I *love* them so much- I agree the book picked up once Baz was introduced and I actually love how meta it is!! I had a really similar thing with Pride and Prejudice- I realised later on my not enjoying it had a lot to do with Austen's famous irony not clicking with me cos I was so young- I always think that's a better book to start with as an older teen now, cos a lot of people that read it young don't like it. Anyway, I ended up loving it too on a reread! 😀 Awesome list!

Me too. Being on Tumblr had kinda made shipping annoying for me. But do I squeal everytime my otp holds hands? Yes I do. So I’m bit of a hypocrite. 😁
Oh Cinder and Ella is maybe the cheesiest book I’ve read. It’s weird because I always say I hate cheesy books but when I look at my favourite contemporaries, all of them are cheesefests!! (me being hypocritical again).
I just love Kaz and Inej so much! I love how Shippable the other characters are too. But I’m kinda annoyed how everyone was paired off. *sigh*
I reckon if Daughter of Smoke And Bone was written in any other way, I would have hated the romance.
Reread are the best. It’s when you, actually know if you’ll love that book for life or if it was just a one night stand lol.
      Thank you!! 😘

Ah I can understand that. hahahah I totally get that 😉 hehe I’m the same- I always thought I disliked cheesy books… clearly not 😉 Me too!! Ah yes I get that.
Yeah that makes sense 😀 hahahaha such a great way to put it!
        You’re welcome 😁

Cress is my favourite in the series, I hope you love it as much as I do!
I agree with you on Karou and Akiva. It was insta love, which I really hate. But I threw all that out the window… well, pretty writing.
I LOVE all the ships in SoC but it did bother me how everyone was just paired off. I had the same problem with The Lunar Chronicles. 💕
